Coastal pop-up photography hides and floating hides

Pop-up hides and floating hides will be set up on the coastline of Southwestern Estonia for the period of bird migration. They will be set up on the coast near Pikla fishponds. From the floating hides or the pop-up photography hides, it is possible to take photos of different migratory birds and local nesters

Pop-Up Photography Hides

Main species: Various geese (Anser), various waders – knots, sandpipers, stints, Ruff (Calidris pugnax), Common Shelduck (Tadorna tadorna), Great Egret (Egretta alba), Grey Heron (Ardea cinerea)

Additional species: Various swans (Cygnus), various mergansers (Mergus)

Angel of photography: Low to medium

Photography environment: Bays and lagoons with the preferred feeding sites of breeding and migratory waterbirds

Movability during the session: Some limited adjustment is possible during and between the sessions. Normally fixed next to the best feeding sites

Distance from the housing/car and access: 100-300 meters, depending on the site. Surface varies from wet and boggy to a sandy and rocky coast

In and out times: Flexible, 1-2 h before sunrise is advisable

Angel of lighting: Side -and front lighting

Recommended lens(es): 500 mm (400-600 mm)

Provided photo equipment: –

Other necessary photo equipment: Tripod and head

Clothing and footwear: Depending on the season

Comfort equipment: Mattress and chair available on request

Convenience equipment: Dry close bucket on request

Floating Photography Hides

Main species: Various geese (Anser), various swans (Cygnus), various waders – knots, sandpipers, stints, Common Goldeneye (Buchephala clangula), Grey Heron (Ardea cinerea), White Egret (Egretta alba), various gulls (Larus), various terns (Sterna)

Additional species: Red-necked Phalarope (Phalaropus lobatus), Common Merganser (Mergus merganser), Smew (Mergellus albellus)

Angel of photography: Very low, approx. 15-25 cm from the water surface, depending on the tripod head and lens combinations

Photography environment: Shallow sea and seacoast with natural rocks and vegetation, large areas with shallow and variable water level

Movability during the session: Freely movable

Distance from the housing/car and access: 100-200 meters, depending on the launch site

In and out times: Flexible, 1-2 h before sunrise is advisable

Angel of lighting: Fully adjustable (coast side in the morning and seaside in the evening)

Recommended lens(es): 500 mm (400-600 mm)

Provided photo equipment: –

Other necessary photo equipment: Tripod ball- or gimbal head

Clothing and footwear: Depending on the season. Gloves, winter hat and personal dry-suite or calypso recommended for colder season, neoprene waders provided 

Comfort equipment: Life vest available on request
