Flying Squirrel Tour

Flying Squirrel Pteromys volans (L.) is rare, with living range from the Baltic Sea in the west to the Pacific coast in the east. In Estonia they live in Alutaguse forest in N-E of country.

This secretive mammal is almost impossible to see without a guide. We offer flying squirrel tours with a local specialist. During the tour, we first look around in the habitat of the flying squirrel to get a better understanding of the needs and preferences of this endangered species. Then there’s a break for about an hour before returning to the spot about 1-1,5 hours before the sunset. The Flying Squirrels are active mostly during the dark hours, so after returning to the spot before the sun sets, there’s also a relatively good chance to see the mammal itself.flying squirrel
